TD Convention Center
Greenville, South Carolina

The TD Convention Center, formerly Carolina First Center and Palmetto Expo Center, is one of the largest convention and meeting facilities with more than 315,000 square feet of exhibit space and 88,000 square feet of meeting and conference space. The center was expanded and renovated in several phases and provided for 200,000 SF of exhibit space. McCracken & Lopez, P.A. worked with the Owner Representatives and the Architect to provide studies, evaluations and recommendations as the project progressed. The facility consists of several Exhibit Halls, Large Seminar Rooms, A Grand Hall/Ballroom Performance Area and Meeting Rooms.

In 2008, The City of Greenville and the convention center, began pursuing a performance contract in an effort to further improve the facility’s energy use and overall performance with little capital outlay. As the engineering firm of record for the most recent multi-phase renovation and improvement to this nominal 450,000 SF facility, McCracken & Lopez developed an intimate knowledge of the facility’s usage style and existing systems. This knowledge-through-experience at the facility was seen as a useful evaluation and oversight tool by the City of Greenville and the convention center. As a result, McCracken & Lopez was requested to consult and assist the City of Greenville in the review of the formal RFP for ESCO services, the formal interview of the submitting firms, recommendation process and third-party review/comment of the proposed MEP system improvements by the awarded ESCO Company.
